Mig Wire Liner Trial

WIRE LINER TRIAL

Product being tested, wire POWER LINER as received from Superior Consumables.

Our facility was having extensive wire feed problems due to dirt and shavings on our weld wire. Gerard Cyr from Superior Consumables was contacted for possible solutions to our tip clogging issue.

We were at best getting one shift out of our weld tips on all 8 of our robotic weld cells before they required removing of the tip to clean out the foreign matter at the tip inlet and or replaced.

We were given two POWER LINER’s to see if they would alleviate our problem. They were immediately installed on the two weld cells that in recent history were giving us the most problems. As a control new standard wire liners were also installed on two other cells. Our tips are only serviced by one person per shift, which made tracking very easy. The technicians were to record any plugged tips on a log sheet made for each weld cell.

Within the first 24-hour period the difference was noticeable. With 6 of the 8 weld cells having downtime for clogged tips that were either cleaned or changed. The two cells with the POWER LINER experienced no downtime for dirty tips.

The second 24-hour period yielded the same results. The impurities could be seen coming out through the gas holes on the diffusers of the test cells, but the dirt and shavings were not being driven into the tip causing the wire to stop feeding.

This innovative product fixed our temporary wire problem. I would recommend trying the POWER LINER anywhere down time from clogged tips is an issue.
